If you have a kid then cleaning and sanitizing their toys needs to be a part of your daily routine.
Toys are literally a breeding ground for germs – and you need to protect your child from them. How to do that? By disinfecting the toys at least twice a day. For example, once in the morning and once at night.
Of course, if your child’s’ favourite toy is a teddy bear then you can’t magically spray it with a disinfectant – you have to wash it in the washing machine. If that is the case then I recommend washing it at least once a week.
But if they are hard plastic toys
If the toys your kid plays with are made from hard plastic then you can easily spray them with disinfectant and it will be enough to remove the germs on the surface.
I like making my own disinfectant because I think the commercial ones contain way too much harsh chemicals that I don’t want around my kids.
How Do I Make My Disinfectant?
It’s really easy – I mix a cup of white vinegar, a cup of distilled water, and I add 30 drops of lavender essential oil that has antibacterial properties and will make my disinfectant stronger.
How do I use it? I spray the toy and let the liquid stay from a few minutes before I wipe it with a cloth.
Another way to disinfect toys?
I wanted to give you some options because using a disinfectant is not the only way you can disinfect toys.
– You can use your dishwasher!
Yes, simply throw the toys in the dishwasher and run a cycle. Your dishwasher will do all the magic and will remove all germs.
I love cumin so much. It’s an amazing spice with which you can make a tasty meal. Of course, there is one big downfall – the stains it can leave behind when you accidentally drop it either on your clothes or on upholstered furniture/ carpets.
But don’t worry because I will teach you exactly how to remove cumin stains from different fabrics – just keep on reading!
How To Remove Cumin Stains From Clothes?
The second you spill any meal that has cumin in it you need to start treating it. Waiting won’t do you any good and will make the stain harder to remove.
Grab a spoon and lift any excess.
Then you need to use hydrogen peroxide. Dilute it in water (one tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide to one-half a cup of water). Soak the stain in the mixture for an hour.
Once the stain has soaked you need to rinse it with cool water.
If the stain isn’t completely removed then move to use an oxygen-based bleach. Again, dilute the product in water and submerge the entire clothing item in there. Leave it overnight. The next morning the stain will be removed so you can wash the clothing piece as usual!
How To Remove Cumin Stains From Upholstery or Carpets?
Again, you need to be fast. Once you drop cumin either on your couch or on the carpet you need to lift the excess using a spoon or a dull knife.
Then continue with treating the stain by mixing a tablespoon of liquid soap, two cups of water, and a tablespoon of vinegar. Mix very well, dip a cloth in there and blot the stained area.
When you are done with treating the stain you need to rinse the area and remove the soapy mixture. Dampen a clean cloth and blot the affected area.
Usually, the stain will be gone after these steps, however, if it still remains then dilute oxygen bleach in warm water and treat the stain with that.
Did you know that dust wipes exist? Yes, you no longer need to spray an all-purpose cleaner and wipe it with a cloth in order to dust all surfaces in your home – you can make your own dust wipes which you can store and pull out whenever you need to do so!
It’s so convenient and, believe me, will save you some money. If you don’t like using commercial cleaners then this is just the recipe for you! I know I don’t like buying cleaning products – they contain way too many chemicals some of which are actually toxic. That is why I enjoy making my own cleaners – using ingredients which are cheap and natural!
What is the recipe?
You don’t need any fancy ingredients. In fact, a huge portion of the recipe includes different essential oils which will leave your home smelling amazing right after using the dust wipes and honestly, this is probably why this recipe is a favourite of mine!
Now, you need 3 cups of filtered water, 2 tablespoons of olive oil. a tablespoon of vinegar, and 3 different essential oils (add 10 drops from each essential oil – 30 drops total).
I use lemon, orange, and tea tree since I adore the combination but you can customize the recipe and use whatever you prefer.
You would also need cloths, towels, or an old shirt cut in small pieces for the “wipes”.
Mix all of the ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well.
Lay down the “wipes” you decided to use and spray them with the cleaner. I recommend you lightly damp them. Shake the spray bottle well before spraying each wipe since we want the olive oil to be able to be distributed on each wipe.
When you are ready, fold the wipes and place them in a lidded jar.

Lately, everyone has become more interested in disinfecting their homes which is why I decided that it is best if I asked the experts themselves to tell us common mistakes everyone makes- the ones who clean and disinfect for a living, the team at Cleaners Manchester.

Cleaning and disinfecting are totally different things!
They told me that a common misconception which people have is that cleaning and disinfecting means the same thing which is extremely wrong.
When you clean you simply remove dirt, dust, and all sorts of impurities but you do not get rid of bacteria that way.
Disinfecting on the other hand has nothing to do with cleaning – it’s the process of killing germs with the help of using chemicals. You can disinfect a dirty surface and it won’t become clean – it will just be free of germs.
You always need to do both – clean first and disinfect later.
You need to read the instructions of a cleaning product
Another mistake people tend to make is to use cleaning products without reading the instructions first. This is necessary because some products shouldn’t be used on certain surfaces and might damage them. By reading the label first you can avoid doing some serious damage to your furniture.
Some cleaning products are very harsh and should only be used when wearing gloves and when you open a window.
You should only use disposable gloves
A huge common mistake you are probably making is buying reusable gloves, however, the cleaning experts say that you should clean and disinfect only with disposable ones in order to prevent spreading germs.
Disinfection needs to be done every day
“The whole purpose of disinfection is to get rid of germs and in order to maintain your home free of bacteria you need to do it every single day – if not more than once a day” – this is what one cleaning technician from Cleaners Manchester had to say.
I do agree with him! You need to disinfect doorknobs, light switches, handles, sinks, toilets, and everything else that you and your family touch on a daily basis.
How often do you clean your home? Is it an absolutely dreaded task? Well, I might have an idea that will completely change your cleaning habits and you might actually even start to enjoy cleaning!
If you don’t have a weekly cleaning schedule – you absolutely need to make one! It’s crucial to organizing your time especially since we all live busy lives with a lot of responsibilities.
What is a weekly cleaning schedule you may ask? Well, it’s basically planning what cleaning chores you will be doing every day of the week. By doing that you will save a ton of time and your home will always be in a clean state! Distributing all of my chores has completely changed my life and the way I look at cleaning.
Here is how I do it!
On Mondays, I always vacuum the carpets in my home. Then I clean the floors in every room and I continue with washing and changing the bathroom towels.
On Tuesdays, I mainly focus on cleaning the bedroom. When I am done doing that I continue with dusting everything in my home and sometimes I clean the mirrors (if they need cleaning).
On Wednesdays, I clean the floors in every room once again. I keep my focus on the outside – balcony and yard. If you don’t have a yard you can focus on your balcony and maintaining it spotless.
On Thursdays, I deep clean the kitchen. I do enjoy cooking so, of course, I clean up after I prepared something but we all know that a kitchen needs a deep cleaning. I also pay attention to appliances.
Then I clean all bathroom in my home, and I finish with vacuuming all of the carpets just like I do on Mondays!
Once again I clean the floors in every room. I then do the laundry which is usually time-consuming since I iron everything.
On Saturdays, I usually just change the sheets and pillowcases.
Well, Sunday, is a day of relaxing so I don’t do anything around the house!
If you use a humidifier then it is very important you deep clean it once a week because stagnant water is a breeding ground of germs and who would want for those germs to get right in the air that we breathe?
Experts say that you shouldn’t use detergents that contain harsh chemicals and I couldn’t agree more. I usually use natural ingredients that I already have in my home like white vinegar.
Let’s start cleaning
Of course, start with unplugging the humidifier and disassembling it completely.
Continue with pouring one cup of white vinegar straight into the water tank.
Then you need to place the water tank on the base and let the vinegar drain into the reservoir. This will help with the build-up.
After 15 to 20 minutes have passed then continue with emptying the water tank and the base from the vinegar. Grab a brush and start scrubbing.
When you are about to clean the small parts of the humidifier you should dip a sponge in vinegar and wipe them with it.
Once you are done cleaning everything with the vinegar make sure you rinse everything well and let it air dry.
Food poisoning is terrible. I have experienced it a couple of times myself and let me tell you – it definitely wasn’t pleasant. It is a very common problem that I want to help as many of you prevent.
A food that is prepared/ stored the wrong way it may come in contact with dangerous bacteria which you will later on consume. This may cause vomiting, fever, high body temperature, nausea, diarrhea, etc. Doesn’t sound nice, right?
Here are the most common causes
You can get food poisoning from eating undercooked food, not putting your food in the fridge for a while, cooking in a dirty environment, not properly cleaning all surfaces of the kitchen, touching and preparing food with dirty hands, etc.
Of course, the causes are endless but you get the point – most often the food simply came in contact with bacteria.
How to prevent food poisoning?
Making sure you cook the food properly
If you do not want to experience food poisoning then you need to properly cook your food.
For example, when it comes to meat pork and chicken need to be completely cooked. When it comes to beef, lamb, or seafood you should strictly follow a recipe on preparing them safely.
Making sure your kitchen is clean
Maintaining hygiene and cleanliness in your kitchen is one of the most important parts. If there are bacteria on the cutting board or on your kitchen utensils they will automatically get transferred to your food. Make sure you wash your hands before cooking. Also, clean and disinfect your kitchen and all surfaces in it.
Make sure your kitchen appliances are clean. I know you are probably neglecting them, therefore, they are filled with germs. Have a professional come and deep clean your oven from time to time so that there are no built-up, burnt food, oil, grease, and germs in the appliance. This will also ensure the proper performance of the oven as well as its long lifespan.

This will cause the heat to be uneven and part of the meat might even start cooking while other parts will still be frozen.

Vacuum the carpet

Removing the carpet
Like we told you – there is going to be lots of dust. So if the carpet is very old we would advise you to wear a dust mask.
Pull the edges of the carpet near the walls using pliers.
Cut the carpet down the length of the room into strips using a utility or a carpet knife.
If you want to renovate the floor under the carpet be careful not to damage it with the knife.
Pull the carpet away from the tack strip (use eye protection if possible).
Roll the carpet strips and secure them with duct tape.
Removing tack strips and staples
Wedge the tack strip from the floor carefully using a pry bar.
Ease the larger nails attaching the tack strip to the floor.
Break the tack strips up in small pieces.
Remove the staples using pliers (or a flat bladed screwdriver).
The top to bottom cleaning of one’s home that is usually referred to as Spring cleaning is a job that specialists advice to get done at least twice a year in order to make your house a more pleasant and comfortable place, and at the same time turn your everyday cleaning duties in a less tiresome endeavour.

After the ceiling fixtures are taken care of, it comes the time for the light fixtures. An all purpose cleaner, a sponge and a cloth will do the trick, and the light in the rooms will definitely improve afterwards.
The fridge is the most important thing in the kitchen to take care of. Empty and defrost it, then carefully clean any stains and moulding that potentially have occurred, so that you know that your food is stored in healthy conditions.
